Description: Versatile. Delicious. Organic. The nutty aromas in this oil marry perfectly with autumn and winter hearty dishes, stews and root vegetables. It pairs beautifully with seafood. Selected among the “The World’s 11 Best Olive Oils” in Saveur, May 2010.
Bill’s twist: Here’s another old friend, L’Estornell EVOO, which converted my parents from butter and other yucky (technical term) oils to EVOO. This excellent valued EVOO is the Jennifer Aniston with notes of Adam Sandler—always popular and fun with a touch of nuttiness.
About the estate: This delicious and organic EVOO is produced from Arbequina olives from the Veá estate as well as eleven estates in the Sarocca de Lerida region. Production is limited, controlled, and certified by the CCPAE (Catalan Council of the Organic Production) under the EEC standards. Each farmer acquires the certification after cultivating olives in an organic manner for three years. The CCPAE certifies that the soil is rid of sulfates. The regions climate is ideal for organic farming of Arbequina olive trees. During the winter, temperatures are very low and there’s an immense amount of fog. These two factors cause a layer of frost to form on the olives that help eliminate most insects as well as maintain the temperature at no less than zero degrees. Conversely, the summer is hot and dry. The heat also controls the number of insects. Under the “L'Estornell” brand, the word, Catalan, is a type of bird that likes olives very much and comes to “help” during harvest time.
Flavor style - Medium Spicy:
Although this versatile EVOO is excellent any time, I have for years referred to L’Estornell as my Thanksgiving or “Happy Holidays” EVOO. Almond trees are grown on and near the Veá estate
