This award-winning, medium fruity olive oil is made from a dozen or so olive varieties, thus creating a perfectly balanced blend of bitter and piquant tones. Colonna EVOO tastes grassy and light with a hint of pepper at the finish. Perfect with pasta, salad, fish, vegetables and other light dishes.

  • Bill’s twist: It astonishes me how a premium EVOO often mirrors the personality of its producer. Marina Colonna adopts stray dogs dropped near her farm and “suffers” as she watches the workers pruning her olive trees. For this hands-on farmer/principessa, there’s only one celebrity to describe this EVOO, Audrey Hepburn—elegant, regal with a gentle touch of enchanting spice.

    About the estate: The Colonna estate nestles between the rolling green hills and the sparkling blue Adriatic in Italy’s southern Molise’s fertile farmland. Here, donna Marina Colonna owns and runs the 320 hectare estate at Bosco Pontoni, which has been in her family for 200 years. The daughter of Prince Francesco Colonna, Marina took over the family’s estate in 1996. The origins of the family’s connection with this land go back to the early 1800s, when it was part of the dowry of the Duchess Cattaneo di Sannicandro who married Prospero Colonna. There are some 600 pedigree Comisana sheep who graze the land and whose high-protein organic milk is used for pecorino cheese. Herons, hawks and migratory birds feed at the estate’s five artificial lakes created for irrigation in the early 1960’s by don Francesco. The extra virgin olive oil produced in the estate’s mill is bottled and labeled on site. The trademark "Amphora" bottles were designed by Marina herself from an ancient piece from the family’s treasures.

    This mellow to medium spicy multi-award winning EVOO is made from selected olive varieties from the estate: frantoio, peranzana
    (Marina’s fave), coratina, cima di melfi, nociara, fs17, nocellara, maiatica, kalamata and other experimental varieties, thus creating a harmonious blend in which the bitter and the piquant tones are perfectly balanced in a rich though smooth medium-fruity EVOO. Hi Bill, Eunhee and I wanted to let you know that we really appreciate your recommendation for a truly versatile olive oil. We use the Colonna for a simple yet delicious lemon vinaigrette...drizzled on tomato's with fresh mozzarella and basil with a splash of the Cavalli Balsamico you recommended ...we even used it in the lemon caper sauce for the salmon. Thanks again for all your delicious recommendations!

I had a unique opportunity to meet Princess Marina Colonna, and sampled the olive oils from her family's estate. This EVOO enhances the flavors of roasted salmon as well as roasted vegetables. Colonna olive oil is now a staple in my pantry and a standard "hostess" gift! Next on my list: the Colonna lemon infused olive oil on spring dishes.
